Last Clinic Day!!!

Today was the last day of clinic. I saw my board patient today. I took PA's on her today. All of the girls who will be taking boards next remember that you need a physician consult to treat a pregnant board patient for WREB which may be a pain in the butt. I was able to get the consult back so I can take xrays today, but I am still waiting on one that has the office heading on it so that it's official for boards. We are SO CLOSE to being done girls!

LA mockboard

Today was LA mockboard. I passed the IA, although my window wasn't completely open for entire injection they said but by the time i was done it was open. I failed the PSA because my 45 degree angle up wasn't quite 45 degrees. They also said that I may have deposited the solution too quickly but that's how i've been doing it this entire time. So all you girls who still have to take it just remember that they are very picky and look at the angles on site of penetration, because by the time my PSA was at the deposition site the angles looked good they said, but i still failed.

eaglesoft assignment

I think I should've picked a different person to do my eaglesoft assignment on because this person had so many restorations that took forever to put into the computer. Other than that it went well. I would almost rather do all of the charting on the computer because I can type so much faster than I can write and I can correct my mistakes.
I found a board patient and was so excited, but since she's pregnant I need to get a doctor's consult to even use her for WREB and then to take anesthesia and x-rays on her. I guess I should just try and find another patient because the doctor still hasn't faxed back the consult to treat. I even emailed WREB and they said it was our responsibility to find a board patient that fits ALL requirements so we'll see how it goes.

Screening Day

Today I am doing three screenings...My first patient was a class 2 but didn't have enough calculus and the kind she had was too light. It's getting frustrating trying to find a board and mock board patient because basically that's all i have left to do. I'm just hoping that eventually I will find one so I can relax slightly.
One of the hardest things has been trying to find a patient to screen and even by going through charts, I have not been so lucky as to find someone who wants to come in still.

Missing Calculus

Today I missed four spots of calculus because my instruments were dull (at least my graceys were). I think I need to sharpen them after every perio patient because today I saw my class 3 patient in both the morning and night and I should've sharpened my instruments in between when he came in I think because I missed spots because they were dull. I think I need to remind myself to sharpen my instruments everyday before my patients get here so I won't have this problem again.

Simulation Day

Today is my patient simulation day. My first patient was my little sister who was super easy. I took a pano on her because she had wisdom teeth in her bitewings from last year. My second patient was a tissue eval who didn't show up. I think that is my biggest stress this semester that if I finally find a patient, they won't show up to their appointment.
This semester has been the hardest for me to find patients and for them to show up on time or at all. I hope I pass the simulation day even though that happened. My afternoon is two little girls that are adorable. They will be easy and then I have a screening planned but I couldn't confirm which makes me doubt that I she will show.

Tough Patient

My patient today was tough. He had some very tenacious calculus and I took over two hours on the two quads all together. I think the biggest thing I learned with him is to ultrasonic until you feel that it's smooth, then handscale, and then ultrasonic again and keep checking the teeth with an explorer. I had to take my gloves off and run my hands under cool water to get my tactile sensitivity back before I did my final check for calculus. I think I did a good job getting it all off in the end though. :)

good patient

Today I found a class four patient but he was so late that I didn't scale any teeth I only took xrays and did OHI and stuff. I think it is so sad that we wish for our patients to have terrible teeth. I think most of us are at the point in the semester where we are wishing for class 4 patients or else board patients and it's sorta sad.
Anyways this guy had the most calculus out of anyone I've seen and it was so hard to probe just because I would keep hitting calculus and couldn't get down in the pockets for some of his teeth. Maybe we should probe after we scale... but I doubt that would be appropriate.

mockboard

I love Alyse, she shared her patient with me for the afternoon!!! She qualified and I only missed one spot that I really couldn't seem to get off when I tried to scale it off. I guess I should've used my perio files or something but I started thinking it was the tooth that was making it rough. I got injections and I think today went well. I'm just glad that I got the experience and I passed :) I only missed one spot of calculus and didn't have any paperwork errors this time around so I got a 94%. Yay.

NO pt NO mockboard

I don't have a mockboard or an afternoon patient today and no one to screen and I don't know how I'm supposed to find someone to screen or anything. It's getting to be a really stressful semester because I can't find patients period. Most of my recall don't even wanna come back til later this semester so I am having a really hard time scheduling appointments. I know I'm not the only one with this problem which makes it even more frustrating and stressful because my grade depends on finding these patients for mockboard and stuff. I dunno what to do!

sore fingers

My fingers hurt, well mostly my fulcrum finger. My patient was tough this afternoon and I don't know what I did to make my fingers so sore, but I guess I just need to pay attention to how much pressure I'm exerting in order not to make my fingers sore.

bleeding

The last time I saw my patient that I saw today was a year ago and she was pregnant. She bled alot then, and I connected it to pregnancy gingivitis, but it was interesting because today she came back and was no longer pregnant and bled just as much as last time. I really had to explain to her that she needed to brush up by the gums and floss because I haven't seen anyone with that little amount of calculus who did bleed that much.

tough pt

I had a tough patient and I really felt like I did so well on him. I got six injections for anesthesia and did that pe and it went well. His calculus was so tough and I had to scale and check with my explorer until I finally felt like the calculus was gone. The biggest thing I learned was to just keep with the calculus and keep going over it, because eventually it will hopefully come off and it did.

no pt

My 8 o'clock pt called me at 8:10 to tell me they just woke up and they were coming. By 10 o'clock I assumed they weren't coming because they wouldn't answer my phone calls. I think people aren't very considerate that our grade depends on whether or not they make their appointments. I am just so frustrated that this is alreay happening this semester. I need to find a mockboard patient and I don't have people to screen for that either. I think that I might try and send fliers out. I'm just hoping that my afternoon spanish speaking patient is a good patient or possibly a mockboard. We only have four more months left though girls!!!

First Day of the Last Semester

I saw my fiance today. He was a good experience for a full mouth of xrays because he had such long roots that it was hard for me to get the tips of the roots of his teeth. Professor Bossenberger helped me with what I should already know how to do which is to overexaggerate the angle of the xray head to get the tip of those roots. So just increase the vertical angulation and it should help. Hope that helps anyone with the same problem I've been having with the PA's of the anterior teeth.
